About Kinnie Starr
Kinnie Starr is a Canadian singer-songwriter from Calgary, Alberta who currently lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Kinnie’s passionate, restless creativity has inspired her to produce 4 records and countless other projects since 1995. In 2004, Kinnie was nominated for a Juno Award for New Artist of the Year and her songs have been featured in HBO’s the L Word and the motion picture, Thirteen.
Kinnie’s musical career began one night in 1992 in New York City’s famous East Village when a friend pushed her on-stage during an open mic night. From there Kinnie went to write and record her first self-released ep, Learning to Cook, in 1995.
That first ep revealed Kinnie’s range of musical influences, mixing punk, pop, rock and hip hop with her natural talent for spoken word poetry. She signed with a major label in the next year and went on to release 4 other critically acclaimed records.
Kinnie has performed with some of the finest musicians in Canada and appeared on the Lilith Fair tour in 1997.
Kinnie will be creating a book of poetry, art and photographs with House of Parlance Media Inc. in the fall of 2007 and should be released in Spring 2008.
