Shane Koyczan: Two Feature Performances at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre, October 2007.

From the VECC program -“You only have to hear Shane Koyczan read once to be hooked - humane, furious, sexy, political, tragic and so funny that you’ll laugh through your tears. With musical accompaniment from the Short Story Long, Shane moves from subdued, deep, sad love poetry to power chord hip-hop meta-meter.” |
The Vancouver East Cultural Centre has just dropped its program for the 07/08 season and as usual it’s a strong and challenging selection of theatre, music and dance.
Shane Koyczan will be performing at 8pm on Friday October 26th and Saturday October 27th to what will undoubtedly be full houses at the venerable ‘Cultch’.
Accompanied by his band, the Short Story Long, Shane should be well-rested from his successful summer tour of Australia, New Zealand and northern Canada.
I am going to recommend that you buy your tickets on the ASAP for either of these shows. Shane’s appearances in Vancouver are becoming more rare and this will be a unique opportunity to see him perform in his old stomping grounds of Commercial Drive. It’s sure to be a couple of hugely energetic shows featuring some of Shane’s classic poems and lots of new work, too.

I got a chance to see him at the VECC a few months ago with the Short Story Long, Mark Berube and Dan Mangan. It ripped my face off.
I hope I can make this show…three days before I leave the country, it’s a close one.
